Organization ‘Research Laboratory’

Activities
In the Research Laboratory doctorate courses are carried out with the final object of acquiring a DBA or PhD degree (still called ‘Dr.’ in The Netherlands). Candidates are counseled during their doctorate course and doctorate research activities.
In addition, scientific research is carried out by order of companies and social organizations, or on the initiative of the board and management of Via Vinci itself.

Management
The Via Vinci Research Laboratory is controlled by the Central Management in Breda (Netherlands). Research assignments are accepted by the Director Research Laboratory, Dr. Hans Broekhuis, and carried out under his guidance.

Supervisors and tutors
For the counseling of its DBA and PhD courses Via Vinci appoints for every course a supervisor with a valid ius promovendi, i.e. the proven capability of taking doctorate exams in that particular subject. Other specialists on a doctorate level may be taken on by Via Vinci as co-examiners, because we guarantee as much as possible the continuity of all DBA and PhD courses.
The director works with a team of professional specialists, researchers and tutors, who are involved as practical experts with the doctorate research.
The scientific research is methodologically supervised by Prof. Dr. Herman Kuipers.

Group consultation
The candidates meet on a regular base for group consultation, presentations and feedback. In the first year four two-day training sessions will be held on the planning of scientific research, as well as a one week summer-course (in 2008 this will be in France) in which the focus is on science philosophy. In the two following years of research the group consultation teams will meet sometimes for intermediate presentations and mutual feedback.
